The teaching of dance at a distance at a higher level

Experience on the teaching accompaniment from the work of improvisation-creation in confinement of a choir director through the voices of his students

Abstract

This article addresses a segment of the teaching experience around the teaching of dance at the higher level from the work of dance improvisation in a second semester group of the Bachelor of Dance at the UAEH, occurred between 2020 and 2021 during the period of confinement caused by the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 to avoid the spread of COVID-19. The educational landscape of distance learning is addressed, reflecting on the characteristics and adjustments applied to dance, pointing out three relevant aspects; the reconfiguration of space, privacy and online meetings, as well as relational work. Likewise, the characteristics of the teaching-learning process from the creative laboratory are presented, which in turn yielded concrete results that allowed materializing the creative work through two dance works in video format.  The results obtained point to underline the importance of creative training based on improvisation work, the relevance of teacher accompaniment, the recognition of digital platforms as alternatives to complement professional dance training and the imperative need to encourage digital skills that allow students to explore the tools of video, cinematography and video-dance to complement their professional training.
