Abstract

Global organizations estimate that 50% of the world population lives under water stress. Currently, the re-use of water is widely accepted to replace first use water or for activities that do not require water quality for human consumption. However, few studies to date on the impact on the generation of greenhouse gases by the use of treated wastewater. The aim of this study was to determine the existence of these impacts. Given the complexity and quality characteristics of treated wastewater, the work focused on the transformation of inorganic nitrogen compounds such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate and nitrous oxide. Addressing the latter, which is a greenhouse gas, allows a holistic view of the processes of the compounds analyzed. Both sampling and analyzes were made in Chihuahua City. Interpretation was performed with Multivariate Statistical Models, ANOVAS and Principal Component Analysis. The results show that there is an impact that can be mitigated or controlled measures during handling and operation of re-use.
