Cationic exchange capacity of synthetic commercial zeolite EniSorb 13X, for nickel ions

Keywords: Zeolite 13X, Wet impregnation, Ions, Sodium, Nickel

Abstract

Synthetic zeolites are created with a specific use, however, due to their chemical and physical properties, they can be modified through simple or complex procedures that expand or change their purpose. The EniSorb 13X-HP zeolite is marketed as a molecular sieve for oxygen concentrators, with sodium as its main ion and a Si/Al ratio <1. To corroborate these characteristics, a sample of zeolite was analyzed by XRF to calculate the Si/Al ratio and the presence of sodium ion. Finally, this ion was exchanged by the wet impregnation method using a nickel ion solution at 1000ppm, for 24 hours, taking aliquots of the solution every hour to be analyzed by ICP and to determine the effectiveness of the method.
