The women’s participation on paid labor in Mexico (1990-2020)
Abstract
The Mexican women’s impact on remunerated labour has been evolving, as well as their role in society. Going from being a mainly passive part of the economic population to representing about half of the country's labour force. Traditionally, women have been responsible for caring and social reproduction activities within households, and for the most part, this was the reason why they decided not to work outside the household. However, there is also an evolution within this organization, becoming female students who represent a greater proportion of economically inactive women. This work is based on data from the National Population and Housing Census, carried out once every ten years, providing a perspective of the changes that have arisen each decade.
