Abstract

Dr. Howard Gardner, Co-Director of Project Zero and Professor of Education Sciences at Harvard University, has conducted research on the development of human cognitive capacity for many years.

Such research has separated it from traditional theories regarding human intelligence that are based on two fundamental assumptions: human cognition is unitary and that it is possible to adequately describe individuals as possessing a unique and quantifiable intelligence.

While most people have the entire spectrum of intelligences, each individual reveals particular cognitive characteristics. When the teaching programs are limited to concentrating on the predominance of linguistic and mathematical intelligences, the importance of other forms of knowledge is minimized, which is why many students fail to demonstrate mastery of traditional academic intelligences, receive little recognition for his efforts and his contribution to the school and social environment in general is diluted.

Gardner presented his theory of multiple intelligences, which highlights his multicultural perspective on human cognition, intelligences are languages that all people speak and are influenced, in part, by the culture to which they belong. They are tools that all human beings can use to learn, to solve problems and create.
