Abstract

Over the years, significant changes have been implemented in education, this includes teaching and learning methods and strategies, educational models, inclusion of information and communication technologies, curricular designs, among others.

For Guevara (2010), ABP Problem Based Learning is based on active learning and student autonomy, it is a different alternative to traditional classroom teaching, it is focused on student learning and instruction, in which addresses different problematic situations in the real context in small groups where they work collaboratively, focusing on finding feasible solutions, assuming greater interest and responsibility in their learning, under the guidance and revision of the teacher.

Among the multiple activities that the teacher develops within the ABP is to design an inquiry based on some interesting problem for their students and shows them the possible strategy to solve the problem, generating motivation and interaction between the students to investigate the situation , introducing them in the field of study, in addition to including the development of critical thinking being part of the interaction to learn to solve the problem, the teacher is only guiding and facilitating them in the process for the acquisition of student knowledge, promoting the reflective and critical learning, aimed at understanding and reflecting on the experience acquired, to apply what has been learned in a future situation (Morales, 2018).

The following map shows the main characteristics, skills and other aspects that include the inclusion of the ABP method:
