Abstract

Throughout life we establish bonds of affection with the people around us, death can not destroy them completely, that's why humans point and decorate the places where they lay their loved ones. It is a posthumous tribute that is expressed in different ways in chapels, sculptures and tombstones that we see in any cemetery or church. In all sadness by the irretrievable loss occurs; epitaph written on the tombs are testimony to a final farewell to those who have preceded us in this final journey. The words express not only sorrow for the death of a loved one, but often are expressions of gratitude and hope of an encounter beyond death. This paper presents some of the messages tombstones recorded in the pantheon of San Fernando Mexico City; cataloged for decades as a museum, this cemetery is distinguished by the beauty of many of its funerary monuments and the importance of the characters buried there. Some of the messages carved headstones pantheon of San Miguel located in the city of Tulancingo, Hidalgo is also presented. Several of the funerary monuments of the cemetery have been listed as historical and are a sign of quality and beauty that used to have this type of construction even in small provincial towns. Some of them have more than one hundred years, and although most are badly damaged to be exposed to the elements for so long and did not receive proper care, still have dignity and beauty. They are testimony to the ties that death could not break, were devoted primarily to parents and children; some of them dating from the nineteenth century and the rest belong to the twentieth century. It's a small sample of this funerary art every day is extinguished by winning new ways for the rest of the dead.
